Popular brand of frozen meals contain products recalled for mislabeled, undeclared allergens

Frozen beef products used in a popular brand of heat-and-serve meals has been recalled due to misbranding and undeclared allergens.According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, a Texas-based company recalled 22,061 pounds of frozen beef products that contain milk that was not declared on labels.The impacted products from Valley International Cold Storage Acquisition, LLC are labeled as Korean-style beef, but contain a chicken sausage and pepper product that contains milk, the release says.The products, which were produced on July 22, were used to make 9.25-ounce cartons of Healthy Choice Power Bowls with Korean-style beef. Bowls containing the recalled products have a lot code 5246220320 and a “best if used by” date of April 18, 2023.In addition, bowls containing the recalled products have an establishment number 34622 at the end flap of the carton. The meals containing the recalled product were shipped to retail locations nationwide. According to the USDA inspection service release, the problem was discovered when the producing establishment began receiving consumer complaints that the Korean-style beef Healthy Choice meals contained a chicken-based product.Although there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the recalled products, some impacted meals could be in consumers’ freezers. “Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the USDA news release says.
